Essential Question: What are the different kinds of states in terms of shape, size, and location and how do these factors affect it?
Activity 1: Construct a 6-column or 6-box graphic organizer and lists different kinds of states mentioned in Barron's under "Territory, Borders, and the Geography of Nations". Entitle each box with the name of a kind of state. Give an example and sketch its shape. You cannot use the ones already drawn in Barron's. At the bottom of the box, state how its shape, size, or location affected its status.
Activity 2: Make a 6-box chart with the following titles: EU; UN; NAFTA: OPEC; NATO; & CIS
Under each title:
a. spell out acronym
b. identify the kind of organization
c. write purpose of organization
d. list three examples
Homework:
a. Review meaning of centrifugal and centripetal forces. What are the forces that hold the US together? What are the forces that have the potential to separate it? Be ready to discuss this in class.
b. Finish any classwork not completed.
